What is going on at Bubwith Tennis Club in 2019…

Our main fundraising event for 2019 will be on Saturday, May 18th from 1pm. Bright Ideas For Tennis, a tennis charity organisation, will be coming along to Bubwith Tennis Club to do coaching sessions for all ages of children and for adults too as well as team players. Two Fed Cup or Davis Cup players will be with us all afternoon, culminating in an exhibition match with two of our best players. Watch this space for more information.

This event will raise money solely for our tennis club, to keep our facilities at a high standard and to encourage more children to play.

September End of Season Handicap Tournament :

On Saturday, 22nd September, Bubwith Tennis Club held their End of Season Handicap Tournament. Heats were played in the morning and then in the afternoon, the final took place about 4pm. We had exciting, fun tennis all day and what a close match the final was. Anne Wottge and Liam Moore (Left side) – also in the final last year – had a brilliant run on points, but were then pipped at the post by the eventual winners – Shirley Leak and Dave Courfield (Right side). Congratulations to them both. Over 20 members and partners attended the evening supper at The White `Swan at Bubwith, many thanks to Clare for providing us with a delicious spread.

24 Hour Mid Summer Madness Marathon: From 3pm onwards on 22/6 until 3pm on 23/6 we held a 24 hour tennis marathon! This fundraising event which was in conjunction with The Great British Get Together (Jo Cox memorial event held over the weekend in Bubwith). Thank you to all that took part, not only from Bubwith Tennis Club, but from many other local clubs who joined us – Cliffe, Market Weighton, Pocklington and Goole.

Club Nights are happen on an ad hoc basis on a Wednesday evening from 6.30 until the light fades….. As the main tennis season is finished, we ask that members contact other members of the club to come on down to the courts for a social hit. All new adult and teenager members are welcome to join those club members who come down for a social hit. These sessions runs after the Junior Coaching sessions with George, parents are welcome to come along and chat to him and discuss any coaching requirements too.

It has been another solid year for Bubwith, and the committee has continued to invest in the ongoing improvement of our wonderful club, through the establishment of a long term court maintenance and rejuvenation programme Our revamped clubhouse has proved to be a real asset throughout the year, protecting us from the fair old British ‘summertime’ on numerous occasions, and attracting many a compliment from visiting players.

A mixed bag this of results season, with some cracking successes and some (quite literally) painful defeats, but our six teams continue to aim high, with the players supporting one other and their captains, to make sure we rise to the challenge of each and every match.

Financially, we continue to invest in the quality of our club, both in terms of facilities and developing our members’ tennis skills.

Junior, ladies and men’s coaching are continuing through to Spring, so if you are interested to know more about the club, please contact Shaun Pinchbeck on 01757 288541
