SPC Coach Showcase: High Performance Academy Tennis Coaches
Working within a high performance academy requires more than strong technical coaching. Coaches need to understand long-term player development, competition planning, physical and mental preparation and the individual needs of players progressing through national and international pathways.
The High Performance Academy Tennis Coaches featured this week bring experience as competitive players, Davis Cup representatives, travelling coaches and player-development specialists.
Sarthak Suden

Sarthak Suden brings first-hand experience of competitive tennis into his developing career as a high performance coach. As a player, he achieved an ATP singles ranking of 1933, reached the Top 20 in the All India National Rankings and was ranked inside the national Top 5 as a junior. His competitive achievements also include a national junior title and bronze medals representing Delhi at the National Games in both 2022 and 2025.
Those experiences have strongly shaped his coaching philosophy. Sarthak believes that effective player development needs to consider the technical, tactical, physical and mental sides of performance rather than treating them separately.
He places particular emphasis on the fundamentals that underpin modern competitive tennis, including the serve, serve plus one, return and return plus one. His approach is structured and patient, giving players time to understand not only what they are working on, but why.
Sarthak has also travelled with competitive juniors to ITF Junior Circuit events and National Ranking tournaments. This has strengthened his understanding of the wider role of a coach during competition, from match preparation and analysis to managing emotions, confidence and decision-making.
Ultimately, his goal is to develop independent competitors who can understand their own game, make decisions under pressure and continue progressing over the long term.

Nino Ataide

Nino Ataide is a player-development coach with more than 15 years of experience, combining a strong emphasis on fundamentals with international playing experience, leadership and mentorship.
A former Mozambique national champion and junior world-ranked player, Nino also represented and captained the Mozambique Davis Cup team. This background gives him first-hand experience of the standards, discipline and mentality required in competitive tennis.
Throughout his coaching career, Nino has worked with players from beginner level through to nationally and internationally competitive athletes. He has also helped players progress into US college tennis, including Division I programmes.
His coaching approach is built around long-term development. Movement, balance, rhythm, footwork and sound technique remain central to his work, but he also places significant importance on confidence, accountability and the habits players need away from the court.
Nino aims to create an environment that is demanding but positive. He brings strong energy and communication to his sessions and sees mentorship as an important part of helping young players fulfil their potential both as athletes and individuals.

Vishal Chaudhary

Vishal Chaudhary combines more than 12 years of competitive tennis experience with over four years working as a coach, giving him an understanding of both the demands placed on competitive players and the development process required to help them progress.
His coaching is individualised and performance-driven. Vishal works across the technical, tactical, physical and mental areas of the game while establishing clear goals and measurable standards for each player.
He has experience working with players competing across AITA, ATF and ITF pathways, including nationally ranked juniors. This has given him a practical understanding of the requirements facing young players as they move through increasingly competitive environments.
Discipline, accountability and adaptability are central to Vishal’s approach. He is comfortable demanding high standards while also creating an environment in which players feel supported, motivated and confident enough to develop.
His aim is not simply to produce better strokes or short-term results, but to develop stronger competitors who understand their game and have the confidence and discipline to perform under pressure.

Thierry Tortellier

Thierry Tortellier brings extensive experience coaching players across a wide range of ages and competitive levels. His work has included coaching male and female players who have earned ranking points on the ITF junior and senior circuits.
His international coaching experience spans Tunisia, Belgium and France, giving him exposure to different tennis environments and approaches to player development.
Thierry is equally enthusiastic about developing younger players. He has coached children from the early stages of their tennis journey through to adulthood and particularly enjoys seeing players develop over an extended period of time.
That combination of experience with developing players and working around higher-level competitive tennis makes academy coaching a natural environment for Thierry. He brings energy, enthusiasm and a genuine passion for the sport to his work.
For Thierry, that enthusiasm remains simple. He loves tennis and enjoys helping players of different ages and levels discover what they can achieve within the game.

Gabriel Banea

Gabriel Banea approaches high performance coaching with a strong focus on developing the complete player rather than simply improving individual strokes.
His own background includes competing in Futures tournaments, giving him first-hand experience of competitive tennis and the standards players face as they progress through the game. He has also gained experience within Bollettieri tennis academy environments in Germany and Florida.
Gabriel’s player-development approach combines technical improvement with tactical awareness, physical preparation, mental strength and professional habits. He believes high performance is built through consistency and attention to the details that allow players to perform under pressure.
He works to identify the individual needs of each athlete rather than applying the same training approach to every player. Clear standards and careful observation are important parts of his coaching, but so too is creating an environment in which players feel supported and confident enough to improve.
Professionalism, patience, resilience and leadership underpin Gabriel’s coaching. His goal is to develop players who are technically stronger, mentally tougher and increasingly capable of taking responsibility for their own performance.
