Further information
  1. LTA level 3 qualified coach CO049168.

I’ve played Tennis since the age of 11. My son played for Cheshire as a child and after I finished my corporate life, the family decision was to become a qualified tennis coach. I qualified to Level 2 and via the LTA web site I secured a job at Huddersfield LTC general coaching groups youngsters disability groups and individuals.

I was then asked to coach the Academy group in fitness and technical areas.

I then qualified Level 3 and took a short term contract as a coach in Greece for a well know holiday company as there tennis manager, I gained rave reviews bringing the start time forward so it was cooler to play.

I became head coach at Macclesfield LTC where I introduced Padel in 2018 to the committee, however, they rejected the proposal.

I have coached beginner children, adults and the elder generation. I currently coach a former GB international who has returned to tennis after a long lay off. This lady has applauded me for re-igniting her passion for tennis.

I have coached and undertaken training in Coaching females, and disability groups including and not confined to children with ADHD,dispraxia, & autism. My eldest client is 90 years young with a now improved backhand, my youngest is 5 years old.

I am Head Coach at Claremont Tennis Club Timperley Cheshire , also at Higher Poynton Tennis Club Cheshire. This is a small club with two clay courts, I have coached there for the last 3 years.
Socially I play at Hale Lawn Tennis Club where this year I won the men’s singles Plate competition.

I am currently a coach at Claremont tennis club West Timperley where I am a self employed Level 3 LTA Qualified Tennis coach. Coach Code CO049168.

I coach all ages from 4-87 years young. I run group coaching for:

  • Junior Beginners aged 4-10 years – intermediate juniors – adult beginners
  • adult intermediate – individuals all standards – Cardio tennis

I am LTA Youth Qualified.

Tennis is the most awesome game. It’s fun it’s brutal it’s mental it’s physical and it’s technical and no two days are ever the same. I love it and live it. When not working I’m watching it on TV or attending venues this year I visited Roland Garros .

Experience

My experience is vast and lengthy. Formerly I had no qualification to support my knowledge, hence, I became a qualified coach. I love all aspects of coaching from that “lightbulb” moment when a beginner hits the ball properly for the first time to seeing students playing and laughing, having fun.

My philosophy is. “that I want everyone I coach to have as much fun playing tennis as I do”.

I have undertaken training for Coaching Females, and as a Level 2 Coach working at Huddersfield Tennis Club, I was involved  the Junior Performance programme focusing on fitness.

Prior to being appointed at Claremont Tennis Club, I took over the role of Head coach at Macclesfield Tennis Club where I also undertook a Rusty Rackets Programme increasing Membership &  growing the junior section to a regular 40/50 kids playing tennis Saturday mornings.

As a level 3, I worked for a well known holiday Company in Rhodes for a 3 week period as Tennis Centre Manager to cover sickness.

I have worked In schools in and around Macclesfield & Huddersfield Yorkshire also coaching disability groups. Whilst at Macclesfield, I  undertook a schools project that was not previously in existence, to encourage children to love playing tennis and also worked with the schools project co-ordinator running tournaments at the club.

In liaison with local secondary schools,  I filled the gap for teaching GCSE tennis as a single subject to children selecting tennis as a option.

In conjunction with Trafford Schools Co-Ordinator & Trafford  I run an annual schools festival for schools in Trafford.

I play team tennis for Claremont & very recently Hale. I love tennis and my enthusiasm and pragmatic approach is generally a hit with most folk.

I believe I have a great deal to offer any club and would relish the role at Hale .

Prior to qualifying as a tennis coach, I worked for a number of Law Firms & consultancies selling employment Law to business throughout the UK & Ireland.

Prior to the Law Firms, I was a Detective Chief Inspector in Greater Manchester Police running serious & series crime, I was a National Surveillance Trainer. I worked for GMP from 1974-2001, working my way through the ranks until when I retired.

Testimonial

Thanks so much for tonight I’m loving playing again. It’s a good way for me to just forget about everything else when I play.
