Has coached professional tennis players ranked in the top 50 ATP as well as beginners, intermediate and advanced players of all ages in Padel. Organized multiple padel tournaments with more than 100 participating teams in Barcelona, Spain.
Currently working in Spain as a Padel Coach at Plus Padel Indoor, I also travel around the world to perform clinics and continue my padel education.

- Coached Henry Patten at Wimbledon 2022, he went on to win the doubles Grand Slam in 2024

My name is Diego Carstens and I was born in Spain in 1994.
I am 30 years old and I’m a dual citizen of Mexico and Spain. I started playing tennis at a very young age and quickly became one of the top players in Mexico. Ranking as high as number 1 in the U12 and U14 categories. When I was 18 I moved to the US on a tennis scholarship where I played for 4 years at one of the best universities in the country.
After playing tennis competitively for 15+ years and coaching for 3+ I decided I wanted to switch it up a bit and in 2016 I started playing padel. I loved the speed of the game and the camaraderie aspect of it, it’s an incredibly tactical sport with minimal margin for error, but one where competitiveness and enjoyment match flawlessly. In 2018 I started coaching padel and tennis at Rafa Nadal Academy and playing multiple padel tournaments every month and I haven’t looked back since. I still coach and play tennis every week, but stopped competing entirely.
Outside of tennis and padel, my two biggest passions are coffee and reading. When I’m not on court you will most likely find me sitting outside enjoying the sun (or the rain) reading a book and sipping coffee. I’ve also traveled extensively throughout the world due to the nature of tennis, however I never really spend more than a week anywhere. That is part of the reason why I want to experience what it’s like to live abroad in a completely new environment teaching the sport I love.
I also own a property in Mexico and run a Vacation Rental business on Airbnb where I manage 7 properties and employ 3 people.

Plus Padel Indoor/ Padel Coach OCTOBER 2023 – PRESENT, BARCELONA
- Currently employed at Plus Padel Indoor in Barcelona, Spain and is in charge of group and private lessons for beginners, intermediate and advanced players of all ages.
- Coaches an average of 35 hours per week and plays 4-5 matches per week
- In charge of organizing events of more than 200 participants

- In charge of introducing the sport to thousands of members at the club and the state

Oklahoma State University/ Assistant Tennis Coach

- Worked at Oklahoma State University as an Assistant Men’s Tennis Coach, in charge of all scheduling and practice design for a team of 12 players from 8 different countries.
- Coached during matches and daily practice.

MAY 2018 – AUGUST 2021, MALLORCA, SPAIN
- Worker at Rafa Nadal Academy as a Padel and Tennis coach in Mallorca. There I coached tennis every morning for 5 hours to advanced Juniors and highly ranked ITF and professional players and every afternoon I would coach Padel to beginners and intermediate players.
- Traveled to the US, Canada and Middle East teaching the Rafa Nadal Coaching Methodology and promoted the brand
