Coaching is my passion. I began playing tennis and other racquet sports at the age of five, quickly transitioning into competitive play, with tennis emerging as my primary focus.
I commenced my coaching journey in my home clubs in Germany as a young teenager. This role felt like a natural progression, and I have continued to find joy in coaching. It is fulfilling to assist individuals in their growth by helping them develop new skills.
In addition to coaching, I am also passionate about music and music education.
In 2020, I embarked on a slow travel project that integrates my love for music and sports, departing from my home base in Cologne. I am traveling with my wife, and together we have explored 14 countries across Southern Europe, Turkey, Southeast Africa, and Southeast Asia.

Reference Letter for Holger Maik Mertin We are a Tennis South Africa (TSA) affiliated club, Three Anchor Bay Tennis Club in Cape Town aimed at providing a platform to grow the sport of Tennis across all communities in Cape Town. We have both a grassroots and junior high performance focus. One of our goals is to act as a platform for junior talent identification and junior talent development – especially in terms of providing talented junior players from previously under-served communities with coaching and equipment support, a long term player development plan and access into selected TSA junior tournaments – at both Provincial and National level. Holger Maik Mertin born on the 14.05.1977 was part of the Three Anchor Bay Tennis Development Center between February and November 2022. He helped forming a Team (men’s and mixed) co-coached and assisted at the Tuesdays and Thursdays Team trainings. He also volunteered and co-coached at the Youth Academy. His indepth knowledge of Tennis and an overall Racket Sports (Padel, Badminton, Table Tennis, Pickelball), gave us support in forming and setting up our newly formed teams. His background as a high performance Tournament player in Europe visibly raised the standard in our team trainings and league games. With his open and friendly character and personality he was approached by all members of our Center. He is highly respected for his skills and court etiquette. It was very valuable for us to have somebody with a lot of experience in our midst.

My name is J. B. I am mainly involved in tennis and a State certified tennis instructor. Statement about a former tennis student of mine. HOLGER MERTIN from Olpe NRW. Holger came to the tennis school as an 8-year-old student. Generally coordinated, nimble and agile and HOLGER had a high speed of learning tennis techniques. Character as a teenager: Punctual and reliable with a great training attitude. In terms of competitions, Holger took part in the district league club project. The OTC club AND the tennis school have risen from the bottom to the district league with a very young team. Holger was there as a player. Because of his studies, Holger was no longer able to train at the tennis school... With his good character traits, Holger is always a welcome guest at the tennis school 🎾👈🏻🤗 Kind Regards J. B.
