Jamie is a natural-born educator and began to embrace his heightened interest in this field during his teenage years, after obtaining reconstructive shoulder surgery. Since then, he went on to become a top leading expert in player development methods and is one of the most sought out coaches in tennis.
With his rigorous academic focus, Jamie delivers extensive knowledge to his students. His proven successful strategies consist of diversifying the trainings to keep them fresh, setting individual goals for each player, and never using rankings as a way to assess progress. By using his pivotal approaches, Jamie has successfully helped develop many top national and international junior players. Of those players, some have gone on to pursuing Junior Grand Slams, are competing in prestigious D1 schools, and others are now in the pro circuit, winning tournaments in popular tours, including ATP and WTA.
Jamie has an impeccable rooted skill for reaching every player on a deeper level to read and fully grasp who they are as a person. He firmly believes that being able to interpret and apprehend people is an art form that every coach should learn how to master. Doing so allows accurate insight into what approach to take for each player to optimize their abilities and maximize their successes.
From his technical development and on-court coaching background, Jamie has been able to share his experiences by writing for numerous well-known tennis magazines and couching editorials around the globe. With his devotion and prospering training style, he is an incredible educator who knows exactly how to deliver and convey his methods that allow for each of his players to thrive.
Experience
Director of Tennis at Lake Cane Tennis Academy, Orlando, FL. January 2015 – June 2020
- Directed tennis programs of all levels and ages.
- Supervised 15 coaches, oversaw the maintenance of 17 Hard Courts at one facility and 8 Har-Tru courts at another.
- Developed a range of junior programs for beginners right through to touring professionals.
- Coordinated with Belgium Tennis Federation and Tennis Australia when they held training camps within the facility.
Head Coach at IMG Academies Bradenton, FL. December 2013 – August 2014
- Player development of the academy.
- Travelled abroad as academy representative running coaching clinics and conducting lectures for coaches.
Travelling Coach/ Player Consultant. February 2004 – Present
- Travelling/ private coach for numerous elite players (130ATP/ 100 WTA/ 20 ITF Juniors) conducting structured and personalized practice sessions, specific development plans, Match Plans, Match play feedback and periodized training programs.
Director of Tennis at Tennis Whitsunday/ Proserpine Lawn Tennis Association, Queensland Australia. July 2008 – December 2013
- Coach, train and instruct participants in tennis by analyzing their performance and developing their abilities.
- Organization of club activities including membership, increased coaching hours to 70+ per week, morning/evening sessions, inter club round robin tournaments, court hire & cardio tennis fitness.
Head Coach at Macksville Tennis Center NSW, Australia. July 2004 – July 2009
- Established coaching business including all facets of marketing, procedures and membership base, court hire, grounds & club house maintenance.
- Private and group coaching from junior levels – 3yrs up with emphasis on hand/eye co-ordination, basic ball skills and positive approach to fitness.
Kids Tennis Foundation Australia. January 2003 – November 2015
- Approached by the foundation to establish coaching programs, in various locations, for children who may have been affected by low socio economic situations, children with disorders including ADHD, autism and children who had been directly affected by drugs.
- These programs were structured to be delivered on both tennis courts and schools that did not have a tennis facility.
Primary School Coaching. January 2003 – December 2008
- Structure and deliver coaching programs to private, public and religious schools throughout NSW with all constraints needing to be considered ie, religious days, school policy.
- Coaching groups made up of 10-25 children, sometimes with limited space to develop hand, eye and racquet skills.
Volunteer Coach at Forster Tennis Club NSW, Australia. February 2000 – December 2002
- As volunteer coach carried out all facets of coaching from beginners right through to elite players I often did this unsupervised.
- I also looked after the Pro Shop handling sales and the stringing of tennis racquets.
