I am Javier, a 26-year-old Spanish tennis coach. I have been playing tennis since I was 5 and I have competed at national level in Spain until I was 15, playing with some currently professional tennis players like Pedro Martínez, Alex de Miñaur, Alexei Popyrin or Alejandro Davidovich. After some time away from tennis, at the age of 22 I returned to this beautiful sport and began to delve into the world of coaching. I have been coaching in two clubs in my area for 3 years at different levels and now I have decided to start a new adventure.
Qualifications
- Head Professional endorsed by the Professional Tennis Registry (RPT)
- Studies up to High School with an average higher than 8.5/10.
- I studied medicine for 4 years at university. Disappointed, I switched to business administration and management (for 2 years) while I worked as a freelancer in the textile sector.
- Currently I want to start my career as a tennis coach abroad and, as I want to get a degree, I will start studying PPE remotely as a hobby while I fully develop myself as a tennis coach.
Coaching times & fees
I am looking for job opportunities which offer good conditions. My experience as a junior player was very enriching and added to the teachings that life has given to me in the different stages I have lived and my natural talent to deal with people and understand them deeply, I know that I can move forward to achieve a great job with good conditions and a good salary, as the market allows it.
One of the thing that best defines me in my tennis life is my stage as player; the other, my last 3 years as a tennis coach.
As a player, I have achieved some good results such as:
- Top 4 Spanish U13.
- Top 15 Spanish U14.
- Champion of my Autonomous Community from ages 10 to 15.
- Finalist in Spain Doubles Championship U13.
- Finalist in Spain Championship with my Autonomous Community U15.
I was supervised by the Spanish Federation and I attended the High Performance Center of San Cugat as part of the top 8 in Spain under 13.
I was lucky to play with current professional players such as Pedro Martínez, Alex de Miñaur, Alejandro Davidovich, Alexei Popyrin, Bernabé Zapata, and Jaume Munar, highlighting my victory against Davidovich in the round of 16 of the Spanish Under-13 Championship.
After a break to dedicate myself to my studies, in 2022 I returned to training, this time at the High Performance School of the European University of Madrid. After a few months, I came back to my town, Valdepeñas, and I started to work in two clubs in nearby cities, Daimiel and Tomelloso, which are references in the area.
Apart from tennis, I did 4 courses in Medicine, which was my vocation until the practices in a hospital did not convince me. Then I worked two years and a half as a freelancer with my own company in the textile sector, before returning to tennis and dedicating myself to be a coach.
I really like reading, I am passionate about Philosophy and History, as well as understanding the mechanisms that allow us to understand the contemporary world. I also like writing privately. I have a very large group of friends, with whom I travel and enjoy the time we spend together doing sports, going to the beach, or watching football (I am a big Real Madrid fan).
My family is also a great support for me, both my parents and my brother, who is three years older than me and with whom I share many hobbies.
For a year and a half, I have been combining my favorite sport, tennis, with training in the gym. I consider strength training, as well as mobility and flexibility, to be essential.
To provide some relevant information:
I speak Spanish perfectly and I have advanced English level, certified by the B1 level from Cambridge and, specially, by my experiences in England (two summers there) and in Ireland (one summer there). Besides, during the years I studied Medicine I achieved B2.2 level at the European University of Madrid.
I am not a big fan of social medias openly; I only use them in a private context, sharing moments with my friends and family. However, I see great potential in them to attract clients to academies, sponsors to players – especially in growth stages to facilitate families´ work- and attention in general (a profile with many followers will catch potential clients´eye, as well as brands and sponsors).
I am able to manage profiles on Instagram and X, and edit videos to showcase skills and progress.
Experience
As a tennis coach, I started as sparring at the end of 2021 with a friend – with whom I shared achievements during my time as a player – who competed internationally on the UTR circuit. Being the owner of the most important tennis club in the area, Daimiel Tennis Club, he proposed to me to start as coach in his club.
I have been working there since 2022 at different levels, from initiation with children aged 4-5 to competition with children aged 14-17 (including champions of the Autonomous Community). I have also taught adults, both with some experience and a good game to perfect it and others who came from scratch.
Since 2024 we have combined training in Daimiel with others lessons in a private club in Tomelloso, where we train several groups that host some of the best players in the Autonomous Community.
