Hello! My name is Miguel and I am a 25 year old Tennis Coach from Portugal. Since I can remember, Tennis has been one of the greatest passions of my life. I spent over 13 years competing as a federated player, reaching a career high ranking of National U18 #16. Those years taught me far more than how to play the game. They taught me discipline, resilience, commitment, respect, and the importance of working every day to become a better version of myself. Those lessons continue to shape who I am today, both as a person and as a coach, and they are values I strive to pass on to every player I work with.
My journey into coaching began when I started university. Like many young athletes, balancing higher education with the financial demands of competitive tennis became increasingly difficult, and I reached a point where continuing my playing career at the level I wanted was no longer possible. Rather than stepping away from the sport, I decided to stay involved in a different way by becoming a coach. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. What started as an opportunity to remain connected to tennis quickly became a genuine passion and the career I wanted to pursue.
Throughout my career, I have worked with children, teenagers, and adults in both recreational and competitive environments. These experiences have taught me that successful coaching is not only about technical instruction but also about communication, trust, patience, and creating a positive environment where players feel motivated to challenge themselves and continue progressing. Watching someone gain confidence, overcome obstacles, and achieve goals they once thought impossible is what motivates me every day.
My passion for sport extends beyond coaching. I have also worked in the organisation of international sporting events, coordinating logistics for teams and staff during an international youth football tournament. This experience strengthened my leadership, organisational skills, communication, and ability to remain calm and effective under pressure. I am constantly learning, studying new coaching methodologies, and exploring the latest developments in athlete development and sports performance because I believe that a great coach should never stop improving.

About Me
My passion for tennis began at an early age and was shaped through 13 years of competing as a federated player in Portugal. Those years taught me the importance of discipline, resilience, commitment, continuous improvement and values that continue to define my coaching philosophy today.
After completing my degree in Physical Education and Sports Science and a Master’s Degree in Physical Education Teaching, I dedicated my career to coaching tennis and developing athletes in both recreational and high-performance environments. I have worked with players ranging from complete beginners to nationally and internationally competitive athletes, designing training programmes that combine technical, tactical, physical, and mental development.
I currently coach within a high-performance academy, where I help players prepare for competition and progress through their individual development pathways. My teaching background also allows me to adapt my coaching style to every player, ensuring sessions are engaging, challenging, and suited to their goals.
Throughout my coaching journey, I have had the privilege of working with players competing at different stages of the performance pathway, from promising juniors to professional athletes. At Frederico Marques Tennis Academy, I have been involved in the development and daily training environment of players such as Gonçalo Marques (Career High #1180 ATP), Diogo Marques (Career High #845 ATP), Daniel Domingues (Career High #1631 ATP), Jamilah Snells (Career High #891 WTA), Baylen Brown (Career High #707 WTA Doubles), Tomás Silveira, Portugal’s National U16 #1, as well as several other nationally ranked U14, U16 and ITF Junior players.
I also have the opportunity to work alongside Frederico Marques, one of Portugal’s most respected tennis coaches and the long time coach of João Sousa, the highest ranked Portuguese player in history, who reached a ATP career high of World #28. Learning from his experience and coaching philosophy has been an important part of my own professional development and continues to inspire me to grow as a coach every day.
I created this profile to connect with ambitious players, coaches, and performance teams while pursuing new opportunities in high-performance tennis. My goal is to contribute to the development of competitive athletes, working in professional environments where continuous improvement, discipline, and excellence are the standard.
I am passionate about helping players maximize their potential, preparing them to perform at the highest level through a professional, detail-oriented, and player-centered approach. I am eager to travel, work within competitive tour environments, and be part of a team committed to achieving success on the national and international stage.
Away from the tennis court, I am passionate about sport in general. Alongside tennis, I closely follow soccer and basketball, and I enjoy travelling whenever possible to experience live sporting events. I believe that being surrounded by different sporting environments continues to inspire my coaching and reinforces my passion for performance, competition, and athlete development.
