To Whom It May Concern, It is my sincere pleasure to recommend Romai Ugarte for a tennis coaching position. I had the privilege of training with Romai on a weekly to monthly basis for nearly two years, and I can state without hesitation that he is one of the finest instructors and coaches I have encountered in any sport. By way of background, I played competitive high-school tennis in New Jersey, but then spent twelve years away from the sport before relocating to South Florida. Upon returning to tennis, I trained with several well-regarded instructors before meeting Romai. The difference in the level of instruction, professionalism, and intensity was immediate and immeasurable. Romai not only rebuilt my game—he elevated it to a level I did not believe possible for myself as an adult returning to tennis. Under his coaching, I won a men's open singles tournament in Delray Beach and competed in high-performance match play environments such as the Battle of Boca alongside academy and collegiate players. Beyond measurable skill improvement, Romai completely transformed my approach to tennis. He instilled in me a deep appreciation for technical precision, mental focus, and the joy of continuous improvement. Perhaps even more impressive is Romai's ability to coach across skill levels and ages. After extensive 1-on-1 training, I eventually reached a level where I could participate in his junior clinics-sharing the court with top young prospects and rising collegiate players without being overwhelmed. Observing him coach young children, teenagers, adults, and competitive juniors reinforced what I experienced personally: Romai adapts his teaching style incredibly well, communicates with clarity and passion, and motivates players with genuine care and energy. His influence extends well beyond skill development— he builds confidence, discipline, and a lasting love of the sport. As a lifelong multisport athlete, including playing collegiate football, I have worked with many coaches over the years. I can confidently say that Romai is one of the very best. He helped me become not only the strongest tennis player I could be, but also a more dedicated and thoughtful student of the game. Remarkably, he also inspired my wife-who had never played an organized sport in her life-to start tennis with him and fall in love with the game. That speaks volumes about his ability to connect with athletes at all levels. Romai brings elite-level knowledge, extraordinary coaching skill, and a passion for player development that is rare in this sport. Any tennis academy, club, or high-performance program would be fortunate to have him. I recommend him enthusiastically and without reservation. If needed, I would be happy to provide additional insight by phone or email. +1 (609)-760-3510 mhbass10@gmail.com. Sincerely, Michael Bass

When our boys, Maxwell and Lucas, first came to the academy, they could barely play tennis. After just one year of training with Coach Romai, not only did they start winning tournaments, but more importantly they fell in love with tennis. Coach Romai has a unique ability to create an atmosphere where kids genuinely want to learn, improve, and enjoy the game. His patience, passion, and positive energy made every practice something our boys looked forward to. He didn’t just teach them how to hit the ball, he taught them how to believe in themselves, stay motivated, and find joy in the process. Over time, he became more than a coach, he became part of our family. We’re deeply grateful for everything he’s done, and we miss him very much.

It’s very difficult to put into words a testimonial for a coach that you still find it hard to train without him.  There is no one like him.  He is an elite coach and an incredible person.  Someone I will always be grateful for.  He pushed me harder than anyone else.   But he did it with purpose.   My name is Roman I am 16 years old.  From the beginning he understood me not just as a tennis player but as a person, as a teenage boy.  He figured out how I learned, how to keep me focused, motivated and bring out my best.   He didn’t just teach me how to hit the ball better he helped me find the confidence to believe that I could compete with anyone. “Rome….Are you ready my buddy?  Vamos nene……. “.  Every time I showed up for my private and I heard those words I knew I’d walk off the court a better player and a stronger person than when I arrived From conditioning to technique he is on another level.  He brings out intensity, discipline, and heart not just because he asks for it, but because he matches it.  He’s working just as hard as you are in the lesson.   When I would play points with him it felt like I was playing in a final.   However, it didn’t feel like pressure because I was playing with a coach that believed in me.  He’s the kind of coach who makes you want to give your all because you know he’s giving you his. He tough because he not just building a champion on the tennis court but a champion in life.  Every training session with him taught me something new not just about tennis, but about effort, attitude, and resilience. Sometimes I would get stuck on perfection, he would tell me “Give it to me ugly!”   When I would get frustrated, he didn’t make me feel bad—he helped me figure out what was going wrong and how to fix it.  He always did it with patience and positivity.  My serve got stronger.  I began winning matches I never thought I could win, but even more importantly, I started enjoying the sport again. I fractured my arm earlier this year and was out for 4 months.  It was very hard for me emotionally.  I trained hard to come back and during the summer camp I had a match with a very challenging opponent who was very confident and had a higher UTR than me.  Romai  watched most of the match.  I was winning and before he left he told me this “I don’t care if you win or lose all I care about is that you left your heart on this court …………You went home with your shoes and your bag but you left your heart on this court” I repeat those words to myself often now.  It helped me win that match.   I just want everyone to know how lucky they are to be trained by him. He’s more than a coach.  He’s one of the most important people I’ve ever had in my life.  Romai changes people, not just their game but their confidence, attitude and the way they see themselves.

Romai is a great coach. I’ve worked with him for about 2 years. Everyday I showed up to practice, he brought so much intensity and love for the sport. I’ve grown to have a good relationship with him on and off the court.
