SPC Coach Showcase: Tennis Club and Academy Directors
Great tennis programmes do not happen by accident. Behind the strongest clubs and academies are leaders who understand how coaching, player development, staff, programming, communication and commercial performance all fit together.
For the latest SPC Coach Showcase, we are turning the spotlight onto five Tennis Club and Academy Directors from within the SportsProsConnect network.
Conrad Singh, Martin Mendoza, Alessio Mollo, Rudolf Rossouw and Ricardo Demeritte bring very different backgrounds and experiences, but each has developed an approach to leadership that goes well beyond what happens on court.
What Makes Strong Tennis Club and Academy Directors?
The role of a director can be wide-ranging.
One day might involve developing the coaching team and reviewing player pathways. Another could centre around programming, parent communication, operations, events, partnerships or ensuring the commercial side of the organisation remains sustainable.
Strong Tennis Club and Academy Directors therefore need a combination of technical tennis knowledge, leadership, communication and organisational ability.
Just as importantly, they need a clear vision for the culture they want to create.
Here are five directors from the SPC network and the different experience they bring to that challenge.
Conrad Singh

With more than 30 years of coaching experience, Conrad Singh brings an international perspective built across elite player development, sports science, biomechanics and mental performance.
His career has taken him across Australia, Europe, the United States, China and Japan, giving him the opportunity to study different systems and approaches to tennis development. He has coached players at more than 55 Grand Slam events and built relationships with leading coaches throughout the game.
Conrad’s experience extends well beyond individual player development. He has worked within and led large organisations, giving him an understanding of how high standards need to run throughout a programme, from coaching quality and staff development to communication with players and parents.
Attention to detail, empathy and work ethic are central to his leadership style. He also places a strong emphasis on identifying talent, whether that means recognising potential in a developing player or helping a coach progress within an organisation.
His philosophy is ultimately centred on raising standards and strengthening professionalism within the coaching environment.

Martin Mendoza

Tennis Club and Academy Director Martin Mendoza featured in the SPC Coach Showcase
Martin Mendoza has more than 20 years of coaching experience across Argentina, Ecuador and Germany, working with players from the early stages of development through to high-performance tennis.
Over that time, he has developed a philosophy that looks beyond simply teaching strokes or improving results.
Martin believes that effective player development needs to consider both the athlete and the individual. Understanding each player’s characteristics allows coaches to create a more personalised pathway while also building the right support structure around them.
As a Head Coach, his approach is highly structured. He believes programmes should have clear performance and outcome goals, appropriate organisation by age and playing level, and a shared coaching methodology that allows staff to work consistently.
Communication is central to that process.
For Martin, a successful academy is one in which players, coaches and the organisation itself are able to develop together. Maintaining a high quality of service while continuously evolving coaching methods is a key part of how he approaches leadership.

Alessio Mollo

Alessio Mollo brings more than 20 years of coaching and leadership experience developed across Europe and the United States.
He currently works as a Director of Junior Programs and High Performance, overseeing more than 400 junior players and leading a team of 12 coaches.
That scale of responsibility has given Alessio extensive experience in programme structure, coach development and creating clear pathways for players progressing through different stages of the game.
His professional qualifications include certifications through GPTCA, RSPA, PTR, FIT and UISP, supporting a leadership approach that remains closely connected to coaching and player development.
Alessio describes his leadership style as hands-on, organised, approachable and creative. He believes directors should be actively involved in developing the people around them rather than simply managing a programme from a distance.
His philosophy centres on developing the person before the athlete. By creating an environment in which players can enjoy tennis, build confidence and progress at an appropriate pace, he believes clubs and academies can create stronger long-term development cultures.

Rudolf Rossouw

Rudolf Rossouw believes effective academy leadership begins with understanding how every part of an organisation connects.
His experience spans junior development, adult tennis, performance coaching, coach education and academy operations, giving him a broad view of the different elements a director needs to manage.
For Rudolf, that includes player development and coaching methodology, but also client relationships, programming, team leadership and revenue.
He places particular importance on emotional intelligence and relationships.
Tennis, in his view, provides different benefits depending on the player. For adults, a strong club can create community and meaningful connections. For juniors, it can become an environment in which they develop resilience, responsibility, discipline and respect.
As a director, Rudolf believes responsibility also extends to the coaching team. Developing coaches and creating a culture in which staff, players and parents all feel valued are fundamental parts of building a successful programme.
His leadership philosophy can be summed up simply: strong academies are built by developing people.

Ricardo Demeritte

Ricardo Demeritte combines more than 15 years of experience across academy leadership, luxury clubs and resorts, high-performance coaching and national-team development.
As Co-Founder and Director of Impact Tennis Academy, Ricardo has been responsible for programming, staff, player development, partnerships, events and day-to-day operations.
His professional development is equally wide-ranging. Qualifications include ITF Level 2, GPTCA Level C, PTR Professional, RSPA Professional Tennis Coach and Certified Racket Sports Executive, alongside pickleball, padel and additional high-performance education.
Ricardo has also completed more than 25 Bahamas National Team assignments, including Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cup, the Youth Olympics and Pan American Games.
That combination of performance tennis and operational experience has shaped his approach as a director.
Ricardo describes himself as disciplined, organised, adaptable and people-focused. He believes in leading by example, communicating clearly and helping staff develop while maintaining high standards throughout an organisation.
His goal is to bring together strong coaching, efficient operations and excellent member experiences to create programmes that are both successful and sustainable.

Leadership Beyond the Tennis Court
What stands out across these five Tennis Club and Academy Directors is just how broad the role has become.
Technical coaching knowledge still matters, but directors are increasingly responsible for building systems, developing staff, creating player pathways, communicating with families, maintaining standards and shaping the culture of an entire organisation.
Conrad Singh, Martin Mendoza, Alessio Mollo, Rudolf Rossouw and Ricardo Demeritte each approach that challenge differently, reflecting the depth and variety of leadership experience within the SportsProsConnect network.
The SPC Coach Showcase series is designed to highlight exactly that variety, giving clubs, academies, players and the wider tennis industry a closer look at the people and experience within our international coaching community.
