Wickham Bishops Tennis Club

Welcome to our Club website. Wickham Bishops Tennis Club is a family friendly and popular club situated in the attractive village of Wickham Bishops in rural mid-Essex. It has four well maintained hard courts, which are all floodlit. The light and spacious pavilion overlooking the courts was part funded with a grant from Sport England and a loan from Essex Lawn Tennis Association. The Club encourages both social and competitive tennis through a full programme of club sessions, coaching, tournaments and local league matches for adults and juniors alike.

Annual General Meeting

The Forty-second Annual General Meeting of Wickham Bishops Tennis Club took place on Monday 12th November 2018 at 8pm in Wickham Bishops Village Hall. To assist the “social” feel of the event wine, soft drinks and nibbles were served afterwards.

Bill Stephens (Chairman), Peter Mickelsen (Treasurer), Jan Rochester (Match Secretary) and Kath Welsh (Junior Rep) gave comprehensive reports on the year’s activities. Our President, Val Martin thanked Bill who has come to the end of his two year term as Chairman and is retiring from the committee after serving 18 years; and Muriel who was retiring from her post as secretary after 33 years. Val presented them with a tennis-themed hand-made cake.

Graham Lewis-Taylor read out a citation recognising Bill and Muriel’s contribution to the club over the years and they were presented with champagne, a retirement card signed by members and tickets to the upcoming ATP Champions Tennis Finals at the Royal Albert Hall.

Bill thanked committee members for their outstanding support and wished Graham Lewis-Taylor and Jenny Cooper, the incoming Chairman and Secretary well in their new roles.

We also welcomed Julia Waddilove back to the committee after a break..

The Littlewoods Trophy – this trophy, donated by Brian and Thelma Littlewood, is awarded to an adult member for exceptional service or achievement. This was awarded to Jon Gustard for his outstanding organisation of the box leagues and singles ladder; also his work on the Tournament Sub-Committee and as our representative on the BHSA.

The Junior Recognition Award was presented to Ida Ghazi-Nouri for her excellent progression and contribution to junior tennis at the Club.

The ‘Suggestion of the Year’ winner was Emma Gunton for suggesting and then producing, a Junior Information Sheet to give all new members a comprehensive  guide to everything they need to know. Emma was awarded the trophy and free membership for a year.

The Wimbledon Trivia Quiz was won by Bryan Stafford.

Congratulations to the prize winners:
