Inspired by the Wimbledon finals in 2003 and mesmerized by its aura, I was 8 years old when I picked up the tennis racket for the first time. With the support of my family and a fascinating goal in mind we set out on this journey, completely oblivious of the nature of struggles & sacrifices one has to make in light of the sparkling destination.

Coming from a middle-class family of non-athletes, we were inexperienced, had no money to burn, and learnt & grew as we went through phases of triumph and setbacks. The biggest challenge in my way were the excruciatingly painful injuries that had the capacity to shatter me years ago, but what kept me going was the promise I made to myself, ‘I would never give up on my dreams.

I was fortunate enough to receive some guidance from one of the greatest coaches in the UK, Alan Jones, when I travelled to England and trained at his academy for a month but for most part it was my ball machine, the wall and my brother, who a lawyer by profession helped me graze through the most challenging yet rewarding times of development.

After exploring the world of competition for a few years I made the decision of stepping into the shoes of a coach with the aim of spreading the love and the passion for the sport.

In these past few years of my coaching career I’ve had the opportunity to shadow and learn from some of the most knowledgeable and successful tennis coaches like Simon Wheatley, James Corden Lloyd, Simon James and Erwan Nicolas.

I’m forever grateful to be a part of this exquisite world of tennis that never fails to make my heart pound with excitement and exhilaration.

Testimonial

From the very first day of the camp, it was evident that Shivani’s commitment to coaching was unparalleled. She approached her responsibilities with an enthusiasm that inspired not only the students but also her fellow coaches. Shivani’s meticulous planning and tireless work ethic ensured that each session was a blend of skill development, tactical understanding, and mental conditioning. She went above and beyond, dedicating long hours to ensure that every player received the individualized attention they needed to improve their game. Moreover, her passion for tennis was contagious. Participants who may have come to the camp with uncertainty quickly found themselves motivated under her guidance. Shivani possesses a rare ability to instill confidence in her students. Her encouraging demeanor made the learning process enjoyable, and her strategic insights helped mold aspiring tennis players into formidable competitors. Reliability and Trustworthiness In any coaching environment, reliability is crucial. A coach must be someone their athletes can turn to in times of difficulty, whether in training or competition. Shivani is that coach. I could completely rely on her in any situation, knowing that she would handle challenges with professionalism and poise. Her meticulous attention to detail meant that she was always prepared, whether it was for a last-minute change in the schedule or handling conflicts between players. Furthermore, trust is a cornerstone of any successful coach-athlete relationship. Shivani fosters an atmosphere of respect and open communication, which allows her students to express themselves freely. I have seen her effortlessly build rapport with students, ensuring they felt safe and valued during their time at the camp. With the care and attention she provided, I was fully confident in her ability to look after the well-being and safety of all participants. Impact Beyond the Court What distinguishes a great coach from a merely effective one is their ability to impact the lives of their athletes beyond the scope of the sport. Shivani embodies this quality wholeheartedly. She encourages her students to embrace the principles of sportsmanship, teamwork, and resilience, which are truly valuable lessons for life. Through her guidance, students learn that tennis is not just a game; it is a means through which they can develop discipline, perseverance, and character. Shivani’s commitment to her athletes stretches beyond tennis practice. She often held sessions that focused on the mental aspects of the game, addressing anxiety, focus, and motivation. It is in these moments that her coaching transcended the physical demands of the sport, leaving an indelible mark on the personal development of everyone. Conclusion In summation, it is with the utmost confidence that I recommend Shivani Manchanda as a tennis coach. Her dedication, reliability, and ability to positively influence her students extend far beyond the tennis court. She is not just a coach but a mentor and a role model, committed to the growth and well-being of her athletes. I wholeheartedly believe that any program fortunate enough to have her will benefit immensely from her presence, and I look forward to seeing the continued impact she will have in the world of tennis coaching. If I could employ Shivani I would do so without hesitation. Shivani is one of the hardest working tennis coaches I have ever met. She will go above and beyond for the players she is working with as well as the team of coaches she is working within. Shivani has the ability and skill set to work with a wide range of players from a red ball player through to a high level competition player. Shivani is hugely passionate about her own development, and has the attitude of a lifelong learner which sets her apart in the world of coaching. Shivani is also an accomplished player which allows her to hit with a high level of player on court. If you get the opportunity to have Shivani coach in your programme I’d highly recommend her as a motivated, hard working and effective coach.
