SPC Coach Spotlight: Celebrating Our 600th Placement with Coach Diego Choque

This week’s SPC Coach Spotlight is a special one, as we celebrate our 600th SPC coach placement.
Bolivian coach Diego Choque has officially become the 600th coach placed into an international role through the platform — a milestone we are incredibly proud of.

Diego’s journey from junior tennis in Bolivia to coaching in China is a powerful example of what determination, opportunity, and the SPC community can achieve together.

Please tell our readers a little about you and your career in tennis so far.

I started playing tennis at 8 years old. I used to play soccer, but I improved quickly in tennis and fell in love with competing. I played national and international tournaments, reached top junior rankings in Bolivia, and later continued my tennis career in the U.S. through college tennis.

After graduating, I started coaching players of all ages, focusing on technical, physical, and mental development. My goal has always been to share my experience, inspire discipline, and help athletes reach their full potential.

Every week we interview coaches, but this one is special — you are our 600th SPC coach placement. How did you find SPC, and why did you apply for the role in China?

To tell the truth, SPC was my last option. I was tired of applying for jobs and never getting a response. I found your page, signed up, and within one week I had a job — I felt very blessed.

I applied for the job in China because I wanted a big change in my life. The culture, the people — everything is different in a good way. I was excited to come here and have a second chance at building my coaching career.

You have now been in China for a few weeks — how are you settling in?

The first week was difficult. The language, the food, the culture — everything was unfamiliar. But thanks to my colleagues and employer, things got easier very quickly. Now I feel fully settled and can do everything normally.

Living in a new country is challenging, but if you surround yourself with the right people, they make you feel at home. I’m very grateful for the kindness I’ve received here.

What do you make of China as a place to coach tennis?

It has been really good. I enjoy coaching here — people are disciplined and kind, and the country feels very safe. It’s a great environment to work in.

For coaches considering joining SPC for international job opportunities, what advice would you give?

Complete your profile as soon as possible, and if you need help, ask Mark — he responds quickly and is always willing to help.

Record videos of yourself playing and coaching. Showing your skills makes a big difference when applying for tennis roles abroad.

As a platform supporting tennis coaches worldwide, is there anything SPC could do better?

Honestly, I think everything you’re doing is great. I have no suggestions — just keep going.
