In this exclusive interview, Frank shares his journey, discusses the inspiration behind his influential books like The Tennis Parent’s Bible and The Soft Science of Tennis, and reflects on his mission to help athletes, parents, and coaches excel in the world of tennis.
Mark Wylam: Frank, it’s an honour to have you with us today. Can you tell our audience about your background in tennis?
Frank Giampaolo: Thank you, Mark. It’s been an incredible journey. I’m a double-certified, multiple award-winning coach, international speaker, and sports researcher. I’ve authored several bestselling books, including The Tennis Parent’s Bible, Championship Tennis, and The Soft Science of Tennis. Over the years, I’ve contributed instructional articles to esteemed publications like the ITF Coaching & Sports Science Review, Tennis Magazine, and Tennis View Magazine.
My coaching career spans over 200 U.S. National Champions, NCAA athletes, All-Americans, and professional players. I also founded The Tennis Parents Workshops in 1998, conducting workshops across the globe. Currently, I work with the USTA, offering mental-emotional training for parents, athletes, and coaches.

Mark: That’s an impressive résumé, Frank! What’s in store for you in 2025?
Frank: Thank you. In 2025, I’ll be a featured speaker at the Australian Open International Coaches Conference. While I still travel for workshops and private coaching sessions, I’m also trying to spend more time at home in Southern California.
Mark: You’ve written many bestselling books. Could you tell us more about them?
Frank: Absolutely. The Tennis Parent’s Bible is particularly close to my heart. It addresses the often-overlooked role of tennis parents, offering guidance to help them become effective, supportive partners in their child’s journey.
For coaches, I highly recommend The Soft Science of Tennis. This book dives into personality profiling, helping coaches understand their players’ unique genetic predispositions. It allows them to tailor their training strategies for optimal results.
Mark: What inspired you to write The Tennis Parent’s Bible?
Frank: The inspiration came from my personal experience as a tennis parent. My daughter, Sarah, was ranked number one in the U.S. and played the U.S. Open by age 15. Walking in a tennis parent’s shoes made me realise how much guidance parents need to navigate this challenging journey.

Mark: Can you share an example of how your work has impacted tennis parents?
Frank: I believe the best way to give back is to share knowledge. That’s why I’m offering The Tennis Parent’s Bible as a free e-book to your members. It’s everything parents didn’t know they needed to know about junior tennis.
Mark: Do you primarily work online, or do you still travel with players?
Frank: A bit of both. I travel about one week a month for conferences and private coaching, while the rest of my work is divided between on-court training and virtual sessions.
