Coach Spotlight: Othmane “OG” Garma
This week’s Coach Spotlight features Othmane “OG” Garma, a long-time SPC member and world-travelled tennis coach whose career has taken him from the doubles tour to the Grand Slam stage.
Over the past decade, OG has worked with some of the biggest names in tennis — including Sloane Stephens, Monica Puig, Treat Huey, Max Mirnyi, Somdev Devvarman, and Dominic Inglot — helping players reach career-high rankings and major titles.
In this interview, he reflects on his most successful partnerships, his love for the game, and his life after moving from the U.S. to Spain.
Q: You’ve worked with so many elite players. Which partnerships stand out most in your career, and why?
A: Thank you, Mark, and thank you for having me. I’ve been part of SPC for about five years now, and it’s been great to see it grow into such a strong, supportive community for coaches and players.
I’ve been very fortunate to work with so many amazing professionals. My coaching journey began in 2011 with one of my best friends, Treat Huey, on the doubles tour. That opened doors to work and travel with players like Somdev Devvarman, Dominic Inglot, and Max Mirnyi.
One of my most successful years was 2016, when Treat teamed up with Max. Being around him was like a masterclass — his professionalism, mindset, and work ethic helped guide us to our career-high doubles ranking of World No. 3 on the ATP Tour.
Of course, coaching Sloane Stephens from May 2017 to August 2018 was another highlight. Seeing her reach the top of the game and lift major titles was one of the proudest moments of my coaching career.
“Working with players like Max Mirnyi and Sloane Stephens taught me that success is about energy, belief, and consistency.”\
Q: Having been on tour for so long, which tournaments are your favourites to attend?
A: It’s been an incredible journey travelling the ATP and WTA circuits. There are many tournaments I love, but my absolute favourite has to be Indian Wells. The atmosphere, organisation, and player experience make it feel special every single year.
Q: You’ve recently moved to Marbella, Spain. What opportunities have you found there so far?
A: Since moving here, I’ve found no shortage of tennis activity! Spain truly breathes competition — there’s tennis everywhere, and I’ve met many great coaches and aspiring professionals already.
That said, this year I’m focusing a bit more on training and improving myself, while staying open to new opportunities as they arise.

Q: What are your short-, medium-, and long-term goals now that you’ve settled in Spain?
A: My goal has always been to help athletes maximise their potential — to bring light, belief, and growth into their journey.
I also want to continue improving myself in every way, so I can keep leading by example. Tennis has given me so much, and I see my role as helping others unlock the same opportunities.
“My purpose is to help athletes see what’s possible — and believe they can achieve it.”
Q: You’ve built an incredible career travelling the world with top players. What advice would you give to coaches hoping to follow in your footsteps?
A: Keep it simple. Do everything with love. Be open to learning and listening, and take action every single day — no task is too big or too small for the player or the team.
Remember: we’re either progressing or regressing — so choose hard work every day, and earn your rest.
“No task is too small. Be the coach who brings value, energy, and belief to everyone around you.”
