Matjaz Pogacnik
I’m Matjaž Pogačnik, 46 years old, and I have a deep passion for tennis. I started my journey as a professional tennis player and reached my highest ATP ranking at 1050. In 2002, I transitioned into coaching, dedicating my knowledge and passion to nurturing young tennis talents. One of the most fulfilling aspects of my coaching journey is the opportunity to manage the tennis courts at Camp Sobec, a role I’ve held since 2011. What makes this experience even more special is that I share this responsibility with my parents. Together, we ensure the tennis facilities at the camp are maintained to the highest standards. This not only provides an optimal training environment but also fosters a sense of community among dedicated tennis enthusiasts.

Beyond tennis, I’m an avid sports enthusiast. In my free time, I enjoy playing soccer, ice hockey, and cycling. These activities not only keep me physically fit but also reinforce my focus on fitness and teamwork.

Experience
2011 – Present: Subtenant and Tennis Court Manager, Camp Sobec
- Operated and managed tennis courts within Camp Sobec, including 7 clay courts and 2 pickleball courts.
- Established and ran my own tennis school, providing coaching services to a diverse clientele.
2021 – Present: U14 Slovenian National Team Coach
- Achievements include leading the team to 4th place in the European Summer Cup (2022) and 5th place in the World Team Cup (2022).
2018 – 2022: Private Coach of Marko Retelj
- Guided Marko Retelj to achieve National Champion in the U14 category.
2014 – 2018: Private Coach of Matic Dimic
- Coached Matic Dimic to become the Slovenian National Champion in the U16 and U18 categories.
2013 – 2014: Traveling Coach of Grega Zemlja
- Traveled with him to tournaments, providing strategic guidance and technical coaching
2012 – 2013: Private Coach of Nik Razborsek
- Achieved his best ATP ranking (500th).
2009 – 2012: Private Coach of Nastja Kolar
- Coached Nastja Kolar to become the European Champion in the U18 category.
- Achieved her best ITF ranking (4th) and WTA ranking (220th).
2002 – 2008: Head Coach Tennis Club Radovljica
- Worked with U12 – U18 players, providing comprehensive tennis coaching and development programs.
