Testimonial

Dear USPTA Awards Committee, I wish to co-nominate Scott Irwin for USPTA Southern Manager of the Year. I have known Scott since 1980, when we were both two young tennis professionals working in Birmingham, Alabama. Scott was Dave Kozlowski’s Head Tennis Professional at Mountain Brook Swim and Tennis Club and I was Jack Justice’s Head Tennis Professional at Vestavia Country Club. Mr. Snyder’s accompanying appraisal of Scott’s recent endeavors at Keowee Key POA are but a partial testament to the kind of impact Scott has had as a manager in our industry his entire career, and only bit more needs to be said on Scott’s behalf by me. A simple review of Scott’s resume or his profile on LinkedIn will give you a brief glimpse of what he has done as a General Manager at many types of quality club, resort, and hospitality organizations across the country. When added to twenty some years prior to that as a Tennis Director (primarily in the Southeast US), his accomplishments and expertise as a manager, a tennis professional and industry leader are second to none. Interestingly, Scott sponsored me into the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) many years ago when I was looking to improve my qualifications as a Manager/Tennis Director when I returned from Western Australia after serving as a National Coach for Tennis Australia. Few people are aware that Scott was the first USPTA Pro 1 professional in the world ever to attain his CCM (Certified Club Manager) designation through the CMAA. He has really been a pioneer in the concept that a tennis professional can grow and expand their career from tennis into the full repertoire of hospitality management, all the while retaining one’s passion and support for tennis. In closing, I would like to heartily endorse Scott Irwin, USPTA Elite Professional, as the recipient of this year’s USPTA Southern Manager of the Year award. Please feel free to contact me for any further information you might require. Thank you.
